Many of Lisbon’s praças (squares) have a little kiosk in the centre, surrounded by chairs and tables and the Refresco de Camões is one of the nicest.
As well as the usual coffees, they do old-fashioned cordials, made of tangerine or lemon-thyme; an iced coffee with lemon called mazagran; and sweetened almond milk, orchata de amenda. A selection of little cakes and savoury pies for hungry stomachs. A spot in the sun to watch the world, and the trams go by. In fact, the number 28 tram stops on the square every ten minutes or so, perfect for sightseeing as it winds through all of Lisbon historic places.
