This casual corner restaurant is in all the guide books for a reason: they have a specialty that they execute perfectly. They serve roast suckling pig “leitão”on brown rolls, tender and full of flavour. Ask for some sauce and they will bring a little jug of the meat juices, enhanced with plenty of pepper, that makes the sandwich out of this world. Cheap and quick and friendly. Other sandwiches also available, including vegetarian – but do try the leitão if so inclined! Order a freshly squeezed “sumo” juice ( pineapple and ginger is delicious) to balance out your meal then carry on wandering around Lisbon’s historic centre.
